Recommended!!!! I'd like to recommend Feivue shoes right off the bat. They're really cheap. You could buy 2 pairs of Feivues for the price of one pair of Adidas martial arts shoes, and still have money for a burrito. They have flat soles, last a decent time, fit well, and I just like them. I believe they fit the criteria to follow the best, and as I mentioned... they're really cheap.
My buddy and fellow practitioner always prefers to work out in Adidas Sambas (not adidas martial arts shoes). They have very flat soles, are comfortable, and they last very decent time. What shoe you choose will be a personal thing as well. Do I need fancy martial arts shoes to train??!!?
That's ridiculous!! People trained in the martial arts thousands of years before "martial arts shoes" were retailed, but you do need shoes that are comfortable, supportive, and fit well.
Adidas martial arts shoes are really popular. I'm not a fan of the typical martial arts shoes. Most martial arts shoes are pretty ugly. I think Adidas martial arts shoes are a little less ugly than the norm, but I still don't really like them. It isn't necessary to wear martial arts shoes in order to practice the martial arts. I like to choose a shoe that I can wear all the time. This way, I won't have to pause to change my shoes when I want to defend myself. If I don't have Feivue shoes, I usually just wear a pair of sneakers. I just try to make sure the soles are flat. I have a pair of pumas that I love, because they're really light and comfortable. They aren't the best for training, but they're quite more attractive than adidas martial arts shoes. They are running shoes with an incline toward the heal. That slight incline actually has a drastic effect on my ability to take a proper stance. I have proof in pictures. Improper shoes can make a drastic difference. Does this shoe offer the support I will need??!!?
Great question!! I'm glad you asked........ Proper support is critical for your feet, but also for your ankles. You may wish to wear 3/4 high tops to give your ankles more support. I've personally found 3/4 tops to be too restrictive for proper ankle movement, and just bulky in general. Then again, there are cases where this added support could mean the difference between an injured ankle, and a healthy one. It just goes to show that choosing the right shoes for you.... is for you to do. What is right for me could be completely dangerous for you.
So, feel some shoes out. Really put some effort into pairing yourself up with the right shoes. For some activities you want high arches to support your feet. This is not the case in the martial arts. You generally want a shoe with flat soles. This will pay off in your stance work. The lower your stances, the more this will be apparent. Again, It is personal, you may need higher arches due to a structural need. Trust your podiatrist if she tells you to get arch support. Another thing, they must fit. I've noticed, that after a few weeks of training, my shoes stretch out. Because of this, I personally like to choose a shoe that is one half size smaller than I normally wear. This way, when they do stretch out, they will still be snug enough so that I may perform without injury. Sports medicine professionals recommend leaving about 3/4 of an inch between your big toe and the end of the shoe. I've tried this, and this just isn't for me. My shoes are really Old!! What's a girl to do?!!?!
I'm guilty of it too, but training in shoes that are old and worn can lead to injury. It's true. Your foot will slide around, and your ankle will suffer the extra burden. Your non existent soles won't offer the proper friction necessary, and your anguish will be long and unbearable…possibly… It's just better to spend a couple bucks to get new shoes than to risk injury that will take you out for weeks or months to heal. so,... !!!!GET NEW SHOES WHEN YOU NEED THEM!!!!
How long will this pair last? This can be dependent on several factors:
What type of style (hard/soft) you practice Training in a hard style can be more demanding on your shoes.
General durability of the shoe Converse don't last as long as concrete shoes.
Your environment If you train indoors, you may want to use a pair with a soft bottom. Asics wrestling shoes can come with either a hard or soft soul. These are good to train in as well. However, if you train outdoors, or on a demanding surface, soft souls on your shoes will rapidly deteriorate. Take into consideration the surface you will be training on.
Would my doctor let me get these shoes??
If you have a medical issue pertaining to your feet, then please believe what your doctor says.
Do I want a heavy or a light shoe???
Generally, I believe people want a light shoe, but this could vary from style to style. There is allot of value in training with weighted shoes to build power, but large aerial movements will be truncated. I like to wear light shoes, and from time to time train with the cheap leg weights, the kind that wrap around your ankles with Velcro.
Finances - Can I afford these???
Below are some examples and general pricing you'll findThe range is from about $70.00. The cheapest is $5.00. The most expensive is about $75.00. I prefer to spend as little as possible to get a quality shoe to work out in. My personal choice is the Feivue. Feiyu (pictured here)

You'll pay about 15-20$, depending on where you look. Great shoe to train in, and not to bad looking either. It looks like a normal shoe.

Adidas Martial Arts Shoes from Amazon.com
Addidas martial arts shoes are about $45.00. That is a pretty decent price for a martial arts shoe. Adidas makes a durable shoe.
Adidas Sambas (pictured below)

You'll pay about 75$ for Adidas sambas (These are not adidas martial arts shoes). That is a chunk of money, but they have flat soles, last a long time, and don't look goofy. As far as I'm concerned, these are the only Adidas martial arts shoes.
Kung fu "shoes" rubber sole / cotton sole (pictured here)

You'll pay about $5.00 for these shoes. These are really cheap. I personally don't like to train in them. Maybe you will. Cotton soles are generally for indoor work.
Discipline martial arts shoes (pictured here)

You'll pay about $58.00 for these discipline shoes.
Otomix dragon shoe (pictured here)

You'll pay about $44.00 for these. They look pretty comfortable, and 44.00 is a good price. I just think that most martial arts shoes are ugly. I also think they look futuristic..... It's just an ugly future.
Ringstar martial arts shoes (pictured here)

You'll pay about $46.00 for Ringstar shoes, but you might get beaten up on principle. Now, these are ugly. I took one look at these and punched the doctor who brought me into this disgusting world.
Pine Tree Martial Arts Shoes (pictured below)
You'll pay about $38.95 for Pine Tree shoes. This is a pretty good bargain, and they're not incredibly ugly.
Tiger Claw shoe (pictured below)

You'll pay about $30.00 for these Tiger Claw martial arts shoes.I kind of like them. They are pretty cheap also.
Mooto Metal Warrior martial arts shoes (pictured below)
You'll pay about $59.95 for Mooto Metal Warrior martial arts shoes. These aren't too bad. I'm almost sold just by the name of the shoes. Sixty bucks is allot of scratch to keep your feet warm though. ..... Did I mention I was cheap?
Asics Wrestling shoe (pictured below)

I found Asics wrestling shoes on sale for $20.00 from Amazon, but they usually range from about $25.00- $60.00 new. These are by far the most variable pricing. They are great shoes too!! These are high top for added ankle support. If that bothers you, you can cut them into low tops. For twenty bucks, what the heck?
