This movie kicks!!!!
Synopsis:
Stephen Chow plays Wilson Bond (Wei Siu Bo), a local storyteller inside of his sister's brothel. He quickly falls into the Heaven and Earth Society who plot to reinstate the Ming. He infiltrates the Emperors service, but Wilson Bond really only serves himself as master. With a bit of dumb luck and quick thinking, he then stumbles and lies his way to fortune and success.
The opening scene of Royal Tramp has about 4 decapitations, a scalping, and a guy getting ripped apart by the limbs!!!
Great stuff!
There are a lot of male genitalia jokes throughout the film, which I am a fan of. It was also appropriate given the context, as well as historically accurate.
Most importantly, there's lot's of bloodshed, and great humor.
Here is the brutal opening scene from youtube:
First of all, Stephen Chow is hilarious in everything. This is a good comedy, but not the best Chow movie I've ever seen. I've enjoyed movies like Forbidden City Cops much more. Royal Tramp is about on par with King of Beggars (also a good movie), they are both definitely enjoyable and entertaining.
There were some references and a couple of jokes I didn't understand. This is to be expected. I'm not Chinese, nor did I grow up in China. Cultural separation considered, most of the comedy is universal. I recommend any of Stephen Chow's movies, and this one is no exception.
